Sewing Elastic

Elastic is often used to gather a ruffle or the bottom of a sleeve, or to introduce fullness to a fitting area in a garment (such as the waist seam).

Sewing directions:

Distribute the elastic in half (and in quarters, if needed), and mark with a pin. Divide the garment area requiring the elastic, and mark with a pin.

2.Place the elastic on top of the wrong side of the garment, noting divided positions. Starting from the edge of the garment, tack the end of the elastic to the edge of the garment area requiring the elastic.

3. With the machine needle in the down position, stretch the first portion of the elastic to the first divided position. Stitch the elastic to the garment until the first divided position is reached. Repeat this stretching and sewing technique until the elastic is completely attached.
