Lesson 6: Backstitch and Self-Bond Edge stitch
BACKSTITCH is a very common and the strongest permanent hand stitch around, mimicking the sewing machine straight stitch.
After securing the thread, make one basting stitch through the underside, bringing the thread back out to the face side.After the thread is pulled out, take the needle back through the beginning of the last stitch and back out where the last one ended.Make another basting stich, followed by another backstitch. Continue till the end of the seam and secure the thread.
SELF-BOUND EDGE is used to neatly finish the inside seam allowance without serging.
Make a plain seam on sewing machine or hand backstitch, right sides together.Trim one side of the seam allowance to 1/8 inch or ΒΌ inch.Turn in the edge of the other seam allowance and fold it over the trimmed edge.Stitch an overcast seam next to the straight seam stitching.
